Safety Tip: Consistency is Key

Jared DixJared Dix wears a lot of hats at Apex Truss, just one of which is Safety Coordinator. One of the things he’s been focused on lately is getting the production employees to be consistent about wearing their personal protective equipment (PPE), specifically their safety glasses.

After months of regularly reinforcing the concept, he’s pleased with the 100% compliance in his plant. “It felt like positive reinforcement was going to be a better approach than punishment, so I just kept reminding our people that it was our expectation for them to wear their safety glasses all the time,” Jared explained. He also ensured his employees had comfortable glasses and tried numerous styles and types before landing on a couple that the team could agree on.

Now, all of his patience and ongoing reminders have paid off, and today the expectation is being readily and regularly met. Jared’s advice? Safety compliance doesn’t have to be complicated, sometimes simple consistency is the key!
