Our charity build project, BCMC Build 2014, got underway this morning in Charlotte, NC!

Yesterday afternoon, the house is nothing but an empty slab (pictured above left). We have an army of 50 volunteers from across the industry working on the jobsite, and by Sunday evening should have a fully framed and sheathed home. Then in December, it should look exactly like the rendering above.

We want to thank all our members who have contributed products, expertise and labor to this collaborative effort.

We also want to thank our Chapters who have generously donated their financial resources to ensure this entire endeavor is successful. The Capitol Area Chapter of SBCA raised over $20,000 for BCMC Build at their golf outing this year. The Truss Manufacturer’s Association of Texas (TMAT) started the charitable golf outing tradition last year, and have issued a challenge to all the SBCA Chapters to match their $2500 donation. Texas has also undertaken an individual company challenge to raise money for BCMC Build, which has generated $7,200 so far.

Several individuals have also chosen to selflessly give on their own, including the creative “Mud Bucket” Challenge by Jess Lohse.

Two BCMC Build Committee members, Carl Schoening and Stan Sias have also issued a $100 individual donation challenge to the entire SBCA membership, and many have answered that challenge! BCMC Build qualifies as a charitable organization under the SBCA Foundation, so all donations are tax deductible.

Finally, we will be bringing the recipient and his family to the jobsite on Sunday, October 5 at 1:00 pm.  They will have no idea the home is theirs until they arrive on site. If you are in Charlotte, and would like to help us surprise and welcome our recipient to his new home, please let us know!
