When the National Framers Council (NFC) was created as a council under the SBCA umbrella it represented an opportunity to strengthen and enhance the important relationship between component manufacturers (CMs) and the framers who install their products. Since its inception, the NFC has proven a valuable ally in bringing CMs and framers together to develop best practices with regard to material handling, bracing, fall protection and overall jobsite safety.
This collaboration has led to the development of mutually beneficial jobsite practices that pave the way for greater use of roof trusses, wall panels and floor trusses throughout the country. SBCA’s relationship with NFC has also provided numerous examples of how a strong partnership between a CM and the framing contractors in their market can expand component sales opportunities while reducing customer callbacks and exposure to downstream risk.
The NFC is still a relatively new organization and operates under a very tight annual budget separate from SBCA’s budget. When COVID-19 hit the U.S., the NFC incurred significant, unforeseen expenses as it strived to provide timely information and develop best practices and resources to help framers operate safe and compliant jobsites.
This approach proved the value of the NFC to a broader cross-section of the framing community, but in the short term it has created a budget shortfall.
The NFC Steering Committee is asking both its framing members and the broader SBCA membership to consider the good work this organization is accomplishing and make a one-time donation this year to help it continue moving forward for the rest of the year. If you’d like to give, please go to the NFC Appeal donation page online.
CMs are also encouraged to reach out to the framing contractor they work with in their market and get them involved in NFC. As numerous framing contractors can attest, their NFC membership has helped them improve not only their jobsite conditions, it has also helped them finish more jobs through a greater investment in componentized framing
