“It takes really great people who care about and look out for one another, support what we are trying to accomplish, and believe in our mission – day in and day out – to achieve this recognition,” Wendy Scribner, vice president of human resources at Hancock Lumber, said in a blog post on the company’s site.

According to Scribner, the survey is a representation of the individual voices of employees at Hanock Lumber.

“That is the real mission of undergoing the Best Places to Work survey process – to get honest feedback from all of our team members, continue to find ways to improve our workplace, and fully commit ourselves to a creating a world-class employee experience,” Scribner said. “Our focus is in creating a place where employees feel trusted, respected, valued, and heard.”

Best Places to Work is a statewide program that identifies, recognizes, and honors the best places of employment in Maine with 75% of the ranking based on employee responses to the survey questions and 25% based on the Best Companies Group review of the nominating company’s benefits, policies and best practices.

“An organization’s true value is not defined by revenue growth or profitability,” said Kevin Hancock, chairman and CEO of Hanock Lumber. “Those are important metrics for our business, but they are outcomes of a higher purpose. The real mission is to enhance the lives of the people who work here.”

The full list of 84 Best Places to Work in Maine and how they rank will be unveiled in a special supplement produced by Mainebiz in their Oct. 19 issue.
