Today, LP Building Solutions introduced a smartphone app for its LP® BuildSmart™ program, which is designed to boost LP® SmartSide® preferred contractors’ businesses. With this new app, members can more easily turn LP® SmartSide®product purchases into LP BuildSmart points that can be redeemed for tools, sales services, and co-branded marketing support. The app also enables members to retrieve homeowner leads directly from their phones.

A spring Wisconsin snowstorm failed to derail more than 30 framers from attending fall prevention training at Altman Construction Company, Inc. in Wisconsin Rapids on April 11. Provided by the Structural Building Components Association (SBCA) and its National Framers Council (NFC), this was the first class held off-site rather than at SBCA’s offices in Madison, an important step in getting this valuable information out to more framers. Reactions to the course, which is made possible by the Susan Harwood Training Grant through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), were positive.

As ICC states the ANSI mark of distinction provides building officials what they need to know to approve an ANSI accredited agency’s technical evaluation report. Why? ANSI demonstrated that each accredited agency has the necessary competencies and has undergone a rigorous accreditation process as defined in IBC chapter 17. Each year, close to 9,000 people are killed on the job across the U.S. and Europe; no doubt all these workplaces had safety protocols in place, but clearly more could have been done to prevent this loss.

Each year, employers are required to post a copy of OSHA Form 300A from Feb. 1 through April 30. The summary must be displayed in a common area where notices to workers are usually posted. Businesses with 10 or fewer workers and those in certain low-hazard industries are exempt from OSHA recordkeeping and posting requirements.

California OSHA issued four citations and $75,750 in penalties to Accurate Comfort Systems Inc. after a worker suffered serious injuries in a fall from a 12-foot-high work area. Inspectors determined that the company allowed workers to stand on the ladder's top cap, and failed to ensure the ladder was secured and extended to the appropriate distance. The company was previously cited for these violations in 2017.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 300,000 work-related eye injuries leading to an emergency room visit occur every year, costing an estimated $300 million per year in lost production time, medical expenses, and worker compensation.
